The New York Yankees and Jazz Chisholm Jr. had an interesting postseason this year, as the second baseman was left out of the starting lineup for multiple games. Chisholm is a professional and didn’t let the decisions affect him, but it seems he could have been used more throughout the playoffs.
Chisholm will hit free agency this winter, and he hopes to return to the Yankees next season.
“Chisholm, an All-Star for the second time in 2025, endured a down year at the plate and struggled both offensively and defensively in four appearances in the playoffs. Manager Aaron Boone left Chisholm out of the Yankees’ starting lineup for two postseason games, including their season-ending loss on Wednesday. The fans at Yankee Stadium booed Chisholm after he fouled out to first base as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the seventh inning. Nevertheless, Chisholm would rather continue his career with the Yankees than exit in free agency,” MLB Trade Rumors’ Connor Byrne wrote.
Chisholm will have some decisions to make this winter, but if he doesn’t re-sign with New York, other options could be available. Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley believes Chisholm could sign with the Toronto Blue Jays.
“Chisholm had an up-and-down tenure with the team, and he wasn’t great with the bat or the glove this postseason. Amid those struggles, he was benched twice in favor of Anthony Volpe. If Chisholm looked elsewhere, he shouldn’t have trouble finding interested suitors. Even with the inconsistency, he amassed 50 homers and 72 steals since the start of the 2025 season, and since he’ll only turn 29 in February, he could have more prime years ahead of him,” Buckley wrote.
The Blue Jays could benefit from adding Chisholm to their roster, as he would provide defensive versatility and another bat alongside Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Although Chisholm struggled at times this season, his power and speed could make him a valuable addition to the lineup.
Chisholm played last season on a $10 million contract with the Yankees. If New York decides not to bring him back, Toronto could be a potential landing spot. With the Blue Jays, Chisholm would still have an opportunity to compete for a World Series.
