The New York Yankees could bring back second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. for one more season via the qualifying offer.

However, MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand is not confident that the Yankees are interested in a reunion with the soon-to-be free agent.

“Chisholm has been productive during his time in New York, but it feels like the Yankees are ready to move on with one of their other options at second base,” Feinsand wrote.

If the Yankees decide that Chisholm is not a part of their plans, they could target a two-time All-Star who hit 35 home runs with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2026.

Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley predicted that Brandon Lowe will sign with the Yankees after one stellar season with the Pirates.

“Maybe the Pirates’ 82 wins, their most since 2018, will embolden them to spend, though Lowe’s contract could feature both a big annual salary and a good amount of years.

“That combination might be more than Pittsburgh’s front office can stomach, which would be music to the ears of a certain major-market big-spender with question marks at Lowe’s second base position,” Buckley wrote.

Lowe’s tremendous year in Pittsburgh may create a problem for the NL Central club. It’s likely they would love to retain the left-handed power bat, but Lowe should command a hefty contract as a free agent.

The Yankees would be losing Chisholm’s speed but signing a second baseman with more power and a higher career on-base percentage in Lowe.

New York may need a new middle infield partner for shortstop George Lombard Jr. in 2027.

Anthony Volpe could also be considered as Chisholm’s potential replacement.
