The Seattle Seahawks made sure the Los Angeles Chargers came out of their Week 4 game still without even one win. By the end of the game, Seattle walked away with a clear 30-23 win over Jim Harbaugh and his team.
Of course, as with any NFL game, this matchup wasn’t without heated moments. There was one incident that especially caught the attention of people watching, and now, it’s getting even more scrutiny. It involves Seahawks linebacker DeMarcus Lawrence and Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert.
DeMarcus Lawrence fined for hit on Justin Herbert
The NFL has released its official report with weekly punishments to hold players accountable for their actions during the prior week’s games. The rules and fines are meant to “protect the players from unnecessary risk, promote player safety and emphasize sportsmanship and respect of teammates, opponents, coaches, officials and fans.”
The league fined Seahawks linebacker DeMarcus Lawrence $17,911 for a hit on a quarterback due to contact in the knee area or below a passer at 14:11 in the fourth quarter. It was basically a low hit on Herbert during Seattle’s Week 4 win. The NFL’s rules prohibit hits to a passer’s knee area or below, so that’s what happened.
Now, Lawrence will have to pay up. But the good news is that the fines are donated to the Professional Athletes Foundation to support Legends in need and the NFL Foundation, so it’s for a good cause.
The Seahawks face the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in a heated rivalry matchup. Meanwhile, the Chargers are still trying to get their first win of the season and are going up against the Denver Broncos.
