Patrick Mahomes is back with the Kansas City Chiefs, and this team is 4-0 to start its season. So, all is well in Chiefs Kingdom, because winning is exactly what this franchise is used to doing.

One of the biggest question marks heading into the 2026-27 season was if and when Mahomes would be fully recovered from his ACL and LCL tear. Well, the good news is that he’s back and looking stronger than ever. He’s even doing one thing better than he did before the injury.

Bill Barnwell of ESPN has released his official NFL quarter-season awards after Week 4. Here, he praises Mahomes for his work this year and even names him Comeback Player of the Year. That really shouldn’t be surprising, of course.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is more accurate on deep passes

In the feature, Barnwell says Mahomes has “returned from a torn ACL and looked, frankly, better than the guy we saw over the past few years.”

He adds, “The addition of Kenneth Walker III has gone a long way, but Mahomes has been more accurate as a deep passer while retaining his ability to throw off platform like nobody else in football.”

So, the thing Mahomes has been doing better is that he’s more accurate on deep passes and still makes the off-platform throws that make him so great on the field.

During the 2026 season so far, Mahomes has recorded 1,037 passing yards, nine passing touchdowns and just two interceptions through four games. His 4-0 record also says a lot, as the player is responsible for getting points on the board. If Mahomes keeps this up, there’s no reason this team can’t go deep, as usual.
