The 2026 MLB season for the Toronto Blue Jays was a very disappointing one. After coming one win shy of a World Series title in 2025, the Blue Jays collapsed in 2026, falling well short of the postseason.

They sold at the trade deadline, looking towards the future. Now that the offseason is only a few weeks away, it’s about time to get familiar with the free agent options. For the Blue Jays, a team willing to spend, there are plenty of intriguing options to consider.

Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer recently named the Blue Jays as the top landing spot for the New York Yankees‘ All-Star, Jazz Chisholm Jr. This is a strange connection, especially since it would mean a position change for one of their beloved All-Stars.

Blue Jays get strange free agent link to Jazz Chisholm Jr.

“Ernie Clement was the AL’s leading vote-getter for the All-Star Game this year. Would the Blue Jays really bump him off second base for Chisholm?” Rymer writes. “Well, yeah. Or at least, they should.”

Rymer believes the Blue Jays should go out and sign Chisholm to bolster their offense. He’d slide into the starting second base spot, forcing Clement, a beloved infielder, to move to another position.

While Clement has a lot of versatility, he could play third base or shortstop if needed, along with a potential move to the outfield if that’s how the Blue Jays can best set up their lineup.

But would Chisholm actually make sense as a free-agent pickup? He’s likely seeking a big contract in free agency this offseason, which the Blue Jays might not want to offer him.

The reason why? Chisholm is coming off a down season for the Yankees. He had 1.7 bWAR in 471 at-bats this season for the Yankees, hitting .231 with 19 home runs and a 97 OPS+, the worst mark since his 2021 season.

The Yankees got great production out of Chisholm in 2025, but this season he’s not been nearly as impactful. That regression from Chisholm makes this free agent link, where Rymer named the Blue Jays as the top landing spot, all the more strange.

In a vacuum, signing Chisholm would make sense. He’ll be 29 years old next season and has a lot of upside as a power-hitting, base-stealing second baseman.

But, after a down season, the Blue Jays might be better off spending their financial resources on other players this offseason. The Blue Jays being Chisholm’s top landing spot is a bit odd, though they are a team to watch in his sweepstakes this offseason.
