The NHL’s greatest modern rivalry will be renewed when Sidney Crosby and the Penguins face Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals on Wednesday night.

Matchups between Pittsburgh and Washington this season will carry more weight, as Ovechkin announced that he will retire after the 2026-27 campaign. The league’s all-time leader in goals has been part of some legendary battles with Crosby, so Pens and Caps fans will cherish these final games.

“Over the years, I’ve developed a friendship with him,” Crosby said. “I have a ton of respect for him. You play against someone that long, and you’re compared and see each other enough, I think that’s something that builds over time.”

Will Crosby or Ovechkin gain the upper hand in Washington?
