Four weeks into the season, the Chiefs have confirmed they are legitimate contenders — and that they could use some more wide receiver help.

Already thinner on high-level receivers than they would like, the Chiefs saw both Rashee Rice (hamstring) and Tyquan Thornton (ankle) go down with injuries on Sunday. Rice might not be dealing with a long-term injury, but Thornton suffered a gruesome dislocated ankle.

Options at this time of year tend to be limited, but a reunion with a former All-Pro appears to be on the table.

Here’s the latest on a potential Tyreek Hill signing in Kansas City.

Will Chiefs sign Tyreek Hill?

Speculation tying Hill to the Chiefs began as soon as the Dolphins released the former All-Pro in February, but Hill’s recovery from a severe knee injury took precedence. As he continues to work his way back, Hill remains unsigned. That could soon change, according to The Athletic’s Michael Silver.

The Chiefs, Silver reports, are “very interested” in signing Hill, citing “several high-ranking organizational sources.”

Silver also confirmed the Chiefs have already reached out to Hill’s agent and would be comfortable with signing the 32-year-old as long as he checks out medically.

The question, then, would be where Hill is in his recovery from a dislocated knee and multiple torn ligaments. The injury is now more than a year old, but Hill said in July, “I have no power in my left leg at all, so I’m trying to regain all the power back in my left leg” while maintaining that his recovery was on track.

After Sunday’s win, Travis Kelce said he would “love” to have Hill back while Patrick Mahomes said the idea was “pretty cool.”

Chiefs WR depth chart

Rank WR WR
1 Rashee Rice* Xavier Worthy
2 Tyquan Thornton** Jalen Royals
3 Cyrus Allen Nikko Remigio

* — Exited vs. Raiders with hamstring injury

** — Exited vs. Raiders with dislocated ankle

The Chiefs are fortunate to be heading into their bye week, as a wide receiver room without Rice or Thornton is remarkably thin. Xavier Worthy is the top healthy wide receiver in Kansas City, followed by Jalen Royals, Cyrus Allen and Nikko Remigio.

Even if Rice can’t suit up in Week 6, the Chiefs will have some time to add reinforcements.
