It’s hard to imagine, but the college football regular season is almost halfway finished. But at the same time, it’s never too late to get in on the action using prediction markets.
While sportsbooks are a popular option for wagering on the action, prediction markets are rapidly growing as well. Instead of betting against a bookmaker who’s already tilted the odds in favor of the house, this format features users trading against each other on outcomes they believe will happen.
Users who predict correctly will get paid by those who slip up in their decision, and a live market price reflects what the crowd thinks will happen at a given moment. And now is the perfect time for sports fans to use prediction markets. New users can get started with promo code TSN to earn a $75 prediction bonus on ProphetX.
The Sporting News has everything you need to know to use prediction markets on college football action this weekend, including the best apps and promos.

ProphetX College Football Week 5 value plays
This is a high number for two teams that want to run the ball. Tennessee ranks in the top 30 in run-play percentage, and Auburn allows just 3.1 yards per carry, so there should be a lot of grinding and not much quick scoring. The Volunteers are also coming off a rough day against Texas, when they gave up 10 sacks, and Faizon Brandon looked rattled. Auburn’s quarterback, Byrum Brown, has thrown five interceptions in four games, and neither offense has looked like a team that can string together drives against a decent defense.
Laying 21.5 on the road is never fun, but it’s tangible for the gap between the Fighting Irish and Tar Heels. Notre Dame is putting up about 42 points a game and hasn’t scored fewer than 27 in any game this season. North Carolina’s defense has been solid, allowing under 14 points a game, but this is the highest-ranked opponent the Tar Heels have faced in the Belichick era. UNC has yet to play an offense like Notre Dame’s, with CJ Carr getting the ball out quickly and Jordan Faison working the middle of the field.
The bigger issue for North Carolina is on the other side. They have one of the worst passing offenses in the country by success rate, and they’ll face a defense that doesn’t give up much on the ground either. That makes it hard for them to put points on the board or stay on the field. Granted, 21.5 is a big number, and the extra week to prepare gives Belichick a chance to come up with something. But if the Tar Heels can’t score, Notre Dame doesn’t have to be perfect to cover.

Both of these teams have been putting up points all season. Alabama is averaging 48 points per game, and Mississippi State is right behind at 43, and the over is 4-0 in Crimson Tide games so far. Granted, the forecast is the elephant in the room. If heavy rain sets in, this total could look a little high. But both teams can win on the ground, so a wet field shouldn’t shut either offense down. The Bulldogs are also 9-4 to the over as home underdogs since 2023, so they don’t mind getting into a back-and-forth game in Starkville.
Alabama’s secondary is my other reason for liking the over. The Tide have given up some deep balls the last two weeks, and Taylor loves to push the ball downfield. Russell can hit big plays too. PFF had him completing 6 of 8 passes of 20-plus yards for 244 yards and three touchdowns against South Carolina. Both offenses also finish drives well, ranking in the top 30 in points per scoring opportunity. When these teams get close, they score touchdowns, not settle for field goals.
The Buckeyes have a way of turning close games into comfortable ones. They beat Illinois by 23 last week, and the last time they played Iowa (2024), they won 35-7. This should be at least a two-score game, especially with how tricky it’s been for Hawkeyes to put points on the board. Iowa’s offense has to go on long, clean drives to score, and Ohio State’s defense is built to make that hard. If Iowa can’t find easy points, they’ll struggle to reach 15, and we all know the Buckeyes are more than capable of hitting that benchmark and then some.
