The Detroit Tigers were one of the best teams in baseball for most of the 2025 season, led by their Cy Young, Tarik Skubal. However, at the end of the season, they fell apart, and had a brutal exit in the ALDS against the Seattle Mariners.
Now, the Tigers are likely to start shopping their ace this winter, and many people are unhappy with the move. MLB analyst Dusty Baker is one of them, slamming the Tigers for it, saying that type of move is what’s killing baseball.
“This, THIS, is what is ruining baseball. Detroit should have already handed Skubal a blank check. He’s the face of that rotation and willed them to a near victory in the ALDS. This is insanity that they would make the best pitcher on earth available,” Baker posted on X.
With a 13-6 record, a 2.21 ERA, 241 Ks, and a WHIP of 0.891 over 195 innings pitched, Skubal is on track for back-to-back Cy Youngs. He’s the best pitcher in the world, and the Tigers are simply letting him go.
To be fair to the Tigers, if they are able to shop Skubal successfully, they’ll be getting pretty much some team’s entire farm in return, as well as some young stars. That’s the price of doing business for the best. However, to be fair to the fans, Skubal single handedly almost brought the Tigers to the ALCS. And now Detroit’s trading him away.
Hopefully, the Tigers do get a giant haul for Skubal. Otherwise, they’ll have him for one more year, and then get nothing when he leaves.
