Sophomore EDGE rusher Colin Simmons is heating up at the right time. After recording 2.5 sacks in last week’s Red River Rivalry win over Oklahoma, Simmons kept his foot on the gas Saturday with three more against Kentucky — adding a fourth-quarter forced fumble to cap another dominant outing for the Texas defense.

Colin Simmons is making headlines across the league.

The former consensus five-star recruit out of Duncanville (TX) is now up to 7 sacks on the season after only recording 1.5 through the first five games. Simmons’ explosiveness, bend, and raw strength make him a relentless force off the edge, and a nightmare for opposing tackles.

In 2024, Simmons was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team and earned Freshman All-American honors. He also became the first player in program history to receive the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award, underscoring his immediate impact in Austin.

Simmons and the rest of the Longhorns defense will look to continue their strong play this Saturday on the road against Mississippi State (4-3, 0-3 SEC) in Starkville.
