Liverpool will put their perfect start to the season on the line against rivals Everton in Saturday’s Merseyside derby.

Arne Slot’s side needed another late show against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, with Virgil van Dijk heading a stoppage-time winner to sink their La Liga opponents 3-2.

Liverpool went into that match on the back of four consecutive wins to start their Premier League title defence; however, triumphs at Newcastle United and Burnley came in stoppage time, and they have not led any of their games this season in the 82nd minute.

Everton are three matches unbeaten since their opening defeat at Leeds United and have been lifted by the arrival of Manchester City loanee Jack Grealish.

The Dutch coach has confirmed he is not ready for 90 minutes against Everton, but after claiming he could only manage 45 against Diego Simeone’s team, the Swede was not replaced until just before the hour.

Hugo Ekitike rotates back in, as Slot aims to protect Isak and allow his No. 9 to build up match fitness with a role off the bench. More surprisingly, fellow mega-money signing Florian Wirtz drops to the bench as Alexis Mac Allister comes in.
