CORONA, California, Sept. 12 — The TSN No. 1 Mater Dei [Santa Ana, CA] Monarchs are on the road Friday night to take on the TSN No. 20 Centennial [Corona, CA] Huskies. The game is under way with Centennial up, 33-7.
Mater Dei is No. 1 in all eight of the rankings that make up the The Sporting News Composite Rankings. That includes holding down the No. 1 position in The Sporting News High School Football Top 25.
The Monarchs are the two-time defending national champions, and they haven’t lost to the Huskies since 2015. They’ve looked uncharacteristically vulnerable in their first two games, beating both the St. Thomas Aquinas [Fort Lauderdale, FL] Raiders and the Kahuku [HI] Red Raiders by a field goal.
Mater Dei will be looking to avoid the upset to set up a possible No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup at the Bishop Gorman [Las Vegas, NV] Gaels next week.
