  • University (San Francisco) boys basketball wins Section 7 MiCamp Solutions bracket title

You probably didn’t hear it here first, but you can take it to the bank nonetheless – University (San Francisco) boys basketball is set for yet another strong season in 2025-26.

Fresh off a third place finish in the CIF-NCS Division 2 and a total domination of Division 3 the year prior to that, the Red Devils scored an average of 70 PPG to go 4-0 at Section 7 and win a title in the MiCamp Solutions bracket.

The path to glory consisted of a 68-65 victory against Carl Hayden (AZ), a 74-62 defeat of Mayfair (CA), a 77-52 rout of St. Augustine (CA), and a 61-57 win against Canyon (CA) in the title match. The rest of the bracket had several more big-name programs: Faith Lutheran (NV), St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy (CA), Cactus Shadows (AZ), Monterey Trail (CA), Mira Costa (CA), Apollo (AZ), King’s Academy (CA), Westlake (UT), ThunderRidge (CO), Cienega (AZ), and ‘Iolani (HI).

University returns one of the Bay Area’s premier guards, senior point guard Lucas Lau. He was named First Team All-Metro by the SF Chronicle as a junior with 22.1 points and 6.2 assists per game, and was on fire at Section 7 with 26 points and 4.3 assists per game on a filthy 68% FG.

Fellow 6-foot-1 senior lead guard Thomas Meehleib and 6-foot-2 small-ball forward Leo Felder, a rising junior, are another two of University’s top players to watch. They’re already among the team’s best returning players and are prime candidates to break out further in 2025-26 with the Red Devils graduating a standout senior class that included all-metro wing/forward Jason Morris.

The Red Devils went 3-1 at California Live a weekend later to cap off a terrific June.

Look out this winter for University to continue competing for titles among both the NCS’ middle-to-upper divisions and the increasingly competitive BCL – West.
