  • T.J. Watt has eye on Detroit Lions if Pittsburgh Steelers contract talks fail?

A new rumor has surfaced and it has to do with the Detroit Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers superstar T.J. Watt.

No, there is no Lions-Steelers trade in the works, something we can only dream about. However, there is an astronomically small crack in the door for Watt to eventually find his way to Detroit.

According to the Woodward Sports Network, Watt has told another player that if a contract extension doesn’t get done with the Steelers and he ends up getting traded or becoming a free agent in 2026, he would prefer to go to the Lions.

Surprise, surprise, Lions head coach Dan Campbell is the drawing card for Watt.

“(Watt) would really enjoy playing for Dan Campbell in Detroit if he’s unable to get something done in Pittsburgh,” host Neal Ruhl said. “Nothing is imminent, I’m not saying a deal is in place, I’m not doing any of that.

“What I’m telling you is what I was told (Watt) said to another NFL player.”

Watt and the Steelers are currently in the midst of contract talks, but things do not appear to be going too well considering the fact that the seven-time Pro Bowler held out at minicamp.

Even still, things would have to get really, really bad for Pittsburgh to trade its franchise cornerstone, who the team needs very badly.

It’s no surprise that Watt would like to play for Campbell, who is one of the most popular head coaches in the NFL, even among players who aren’t on his team.

Campbell wears his emotions on his sleeve and you can tell he truly cares about his players. And, being a former NFL player himself, Campbell can easily relate to anyone in his locker room.

If you polled every player in the entire league and asked them which coach they’d most like to play for, we’d put money on Campbell coming out on top.

Knowing that, it’s definitely feasible that Watt could have his eye on the Lions if he doesn’t stay in Pittsburgh.
