  • Suns’ Durant reportedly had interest in joining superteam at trade deadline

Kevin Durant’s time in Phoenix was not as exciting as fans around the globe had hoped, and now he is almost a guarantee to be traded in the coming weeks.

Despite not even making the playoffs with a 36-46 record, the Phoenix Suns failed to assemble a competent team around Durant and Devin Booker, making his time in Arizona disappointing.

Now that he seems to be getting traded away, he reportedly had interest in making a league-changing move with one preferred destination alongside the New York Knicks.

NBA Analyst Kevin O’Connor announced Durant had an interest in joining the Boston Celtics at the trade deadline.

“Durant has already been denied by his top choices. There were rumblings at the trade deadline KD wanted to land with the (Boston) Celtics or Knicks,” O’Connor said on Tuesday. “New York’s interest reportedly isn’t mutual anymore. Boston’s cap sheet and trajectory make that scenario highly unlikely.”

Since there was no knowledge of this at the time, the trade package remains unknown.

As O’Connor described, Boston is in a difficult financial spot.

Fast forward to the present, and reports of the Sun’s having done their homework on Kristaps Porziņģis.

A trade package revolving around Durant and Porziņģis could have been possible.

Now that the offseason is right around the corner, we can only speculate what a team of Durant, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and others would have been able to accomplish.
