A Cardinals outfielder is getting national attention for his performance so far this year.
In a Bleacher Report article from Kerry Miller, Miller named St. Louis center fielder Victor Scott II as the Cardinals most improved player on the team.
“Heading into the year, it was anybody’s guess whether Scott and Michael Siani would become St. Louis’ primary center fielder,” Miller wrote. “Scott won the batting with a 1.172 OPS to Siana’s .320 mark in spring training and has maintained a tight grip on the job. His OPS if .657 is a far cry from what he did in March. However, it’s better than what he managed in 53 games played last season, and he has accounted for nearly 50 percent of the Cardinals stolen bases while also playing quality defense.”
Scott II is hitting .240 this season with three home runs and 24 RBIs and has stolen 21 bases for the Cardinals.Scott II’s average is ninth on the team, right behind Nolan Arenado, who is hitting .247.
The Cardinals are in the middle of a huge series with its division rival Chicago Cubs. At 44-36, Scott II has helped St. Louis to tie the Brewers for second in the division and only 2.5 games back of the Cubs.
The NL playoff race will be one to monitor. With six teams including the Cubs, Cardinals and Brewers all within three games of each other, the second half of the season will no doubt be unpredictable and fun to see.
