Mustang (Oklahoma) four-star quarterback Jaden O’Neal was committed to the Oklahoma Sooners for nearly a year, beginning in June 2024.

The key word, of course, is “was,” because Thursday the 6-foot-3, 215-pound signal-caller decommitted from the in-state program.

In truth, that wasn’t a major surprise, as another school has not only emerged, but clearly risen to the forefront of O’Neal’s recruitment.

Prediction: Jaden O’Neal to Florida State Seminoles

Florida State has been a threat to flip O’Neal for some time.

But the pressure was truly cranked up in early April when O’Neal took an unofficial visit to Tallahassee.

Following that trip, many speculated a future flip could in store.

Last weekend, that buzz intensified greatly when the Oklahoma product took an official visit to Florida State.

Less than a week later, he’s back on the market – for now.

All signs point to a quick commitment to Mike Norvell’s program.

And the recruiting industry agrees.

Both On3 and 247Sports have experienced a flurry of “O’Neal to Florida State” predictions in the past 24 hours.

Nothing in recruiting is a “sure thing” anymore, but O’Neal completing the Oklahoma-to-Florida State flip feels inevitable.

What would the ‘Noles be getting in the Mustang star?

As a junior, O’Neal threw for 3,040 yards, 28 touchdowns with just four interceptions, highlighting his ability as one of the best pocket passers in the West region.

He is rated a four-star prospect as the nation’s No. 205 overall prospect and No. 14 quarterback in the class of 2026.

Here’s what 247Sports had to say about him in its scouting report:

“One of the best pure throwers in the ’26 class. Game has taken a nice jump over the last year and he has shined at multiple off-season events including Elite 11 Regional Camp and Under Armour Next Camp in March.”

“Has always had a big arm and is probably the most accurate deep ball thrower out West right now, regardless of class. Has leaned out, dropped close to 10 pounds in the off-season and is moving a lot more easily in and out of the pocket.

“Mechanically, has a prototype throwing motion, clean release and the ball jumps out of his hand. Is accurate to all three levels of the field and throws well on the run. Want to see improve his escapability and ability to extend plays when he doesn’t have a clean pocket.”

“High ceiling for sure with the raw talent to play for any Power 4 program.”

For those curious, here’s O’Neal’s lengthy decommitment announcement in its entirety:

“Sooner Nation, it is with deep gratitude and heavy heart that I announce my decommitment from the University of Oklahoma.”

“When I committed to OU nearly a year ago, I felt a genuine connection to the program. I was recruited by Coach Seth Littrell, and I believed in the vision and support I felt from the entire Sooner family. More than just my talent or skill set, I appreciated how the staff respected me for who l am and for the values my parents instilled in me.”

“But a lot has changed since last June. I understand that college football is a business, and with that comes constant change and the pressure to produce results. After much prayer, thoughtful conversations with my family and those closest to me, l’ve made the decision to reopen my recruitment.”

“I want to personally thank Coach Seth Littrell, Coach Jack Lowary and Coach Ty Hatch for believing in me – not just as a quarterback, but as a young man. I also want to thank Sooner Nation for embracing me and supporting me throughout the past year. That love has never gone unnoticed.”

“To my parents, thank you for your unwavering support from the time I first picked up a football at five years old. And to my coach, Lee Blankenship, and my teammates at Mustang High School – thank you for standing by me. Let’s go chase greatness together. This is not the end of my journey — just the next chapter. I will take my talent where it is wanted, appreciated and needed most.”

“God Bless, – Jaden O’Neal”
