The Houston Astros are among the hottest teams in the MLB right now, winning seven of their last 10 games.

With their current hot streak, the Astros have started to separate themselves and take control of the AL West, currently holding a 4.5-game lead over the second place Seattle Mariners.

As the Astros focus more on a potential postseason run, Houston could become buyers at July’s  trade deadline. One player the Astros could go out and buy is Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Andrew Heaney.

In an article by Mark Feinsand from mlb.com, Houston was named as a potential fit for Heaney if the Pirates were to trade him.

“No, this isn’t the Pittsburgh starting pitcher whose potential availability has generated so much buzz, but Paul Skenes isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Mitch Keller could be in play, though he’s signed through 2028, so Heaney – who is pitching on a one-year, $5.25 million deal – could be a better option,” Feinsand writes.

Heaney is currently 3-5 in his 14 starts this season, but has posted an ERA of 3.33 and has recent postseason experience while pitching for the Rangers and Dodgers over the past three seasons. In 10 of his 14 starts, he has allowed three or fewer runs.

A starting pitcher added to the Astros rotation would definitely help. Houston has had a carousel of starting pitchers due to the number of pitchers on the roster listed as injured. Despite his record, Heaney would give the AL West leaders a reliable arm.
