McLaren Formula 1 driver Oscar Piastri has announced a heartwarming new partnership with My Room Children’s Cancer Charity as he becomes an ambassador.
The Australian driver shared on Instagram that he had decided to partner with the charity after meeting a young boy named Kruz Seumanutafa, who is battling a rare form of leukaemia. Piastri met the six-year-old during the 2025 season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
“That was absolutely amazing – that was everything we could have asked for as a wish come true,” Kruz’s mother, Lauren, told Wide World of Sports at the time. “His dad has been an F1 fan for years, so, naturally, his kids are also F1 fans.”
She added: “He got a bone marrow transplant last year, and he relapsed in September. We’re currently praying for a miracle. He was actually in hospital the last two days. He was in theatre [Friday], but you wouldn’t know it. It definitely takes our mind off what’s to come, being here. This is amazing for our family.”
Piastri has been kept up to date with Kruz’s condition following their interaction at Albert Park, which inspired him to work more closely with the charity.
“Some of you might remember that I met Kruz this year at the Australian Grand Prix, thanks to the My Room Children’s Cancer Charity,” he explained in the Instagram video.

“The team have been keeping me updated with Kruz’s journey, and I’ve really kind of understood a lot more about what the charity is all about and how they support very young kids with cancer.
“Obviously, any kind of cancer is extremely devastating, let alone in children. So I’m very proud to announce that I’m going to become an ambassador for the My Room Children’s Cancer Charity.
“So yeah, I’m really looking forward to working with them all on trying to raise more incredibly valuable funds, and also just support and awareness around cancer. So looking forward to working with My Room and yeah, thanks for all your support, everyone.”
Prior to becoming an ambassador for the charity, the McLaren driver had already donated a race-worn helmet from 2024, which is set to be auctioned off to raise money for the organisation.
