The Milwaukee Bucks are going to need a lot of help in the backcourt next season, which could come in the form of a future Hall of Famer.
The team made a stunning decision to waive Damian Lillard earlier this week. The Bucks also traded away Pat Connaughton to the Charlotte Hornets. The series of moves now leaves the Bucks incredibly shallow at the guard position.
In the market for guards, ESPN’s Shams Charania, and NBA Insider Marc Stein have both reported that the Bucks are interested in Chris Paul.
According to Sharania on SportsCenter, Paul and the Bucks “had a conversation” regarding a potential deal. Paul is also receiving interest from the Los Angeles Clippers and Phoenix Suns.
“He is sorting through options, though, right now,” Sharania said. “Whether it’s on the West Coast, a team like Milwaukee. We’ll see where his future could go.”
Giannis Antetokounmpo has been apart of swirling trade rumors to start the offseason despite no indication from either party that the two sides won’t be together for a 13th season in Milwaukee in 2025-26. Signing a veteran such as Chris Paul could entice Antetokounmpo and the Bucks to stick it out, and try to salvage what they can next season with a weakened Eastern Conference.
At 40 years old, Paul isn’t the same player he once was, but is still highly effective. This past season with the San Antonio Spurs, Paul appeared in all 82 games, averaging 8.8 points and 7.4 assists per game. The Bucks current rotation at point guard includes Kevin Porter Jr., Vasilije Micic, and Jamaree Bouyea, so adding Paul to the mix would give the team a considerable boost espescially in the playmaking department.
