The Toronto Maple Leafs have been the team with one of the biggest storylines of the NHL offseason. After losing Mitch Marner to the Las Vegas Golden Knights in free agency, Toronto has been looking to improve its team since his departure.
The Maple Leafs have recently expressed interest in making a deal for St. Louis Blues All-Star Jordan Kyrou. Kyrou has recently been rumored to be traded this offseason and could be dealt before the start of the season.
NHL insider David Pagnotta has mentioned that the Maple Leafs have been contemplating going after Kyrou.
With the loss of Marner, Kyrou could be the player that the Maple Leafs need as a suitable replacement.
If Kyrou were to join the Maple Leafs, he would be playing with a talented center group that features Auston Matthews, John Tavares, and Bobby McMann.
Kyrou has spent the entirety of his NHL career with St. Louis since getting drafted by them with the 35th pick in the second round of the 2016 Draft.
In his seven seasons with the Blues, Kyrou has recorded 150 goals, 182 assists, and 332 points.
Last season with the Blues, he collected 36 goals and 34 assists for 70 points. In the Blues’ first-round playoff series loss to the Winnipeg Jets, Kyrou put up three goals in a series that went seven games.
For the Maple Leafs, a franchise that has experienced years of playoff disappointment and heartbreak, Kyrou may be the player that Toronto needs to get over the hump.
Kyrou has experience playing for a franchise that has experienced highs and lows in the playoffs with the Blues. Kyrou was on the Blues team in 2019 that won their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
