  • Man City’s Kyle Walker reveals why he rejected Everton earlier amid transfer interest

Kyle Walker’s journey at Manchester City is expected to come to an end with his contract expiry at the end of this month.

Earlier this year, Walker reportedly voiced his desire to make a move away from Etihad with six months left on his contract. He was then loaned to AC Milan in January for the rest of the season, with the deal including an option for a permanent transfer.

However, the Serie A giants decided against activating the buy clause, resulting in the 35-year-old returning to Man City for the time being.

Now, several reports have suggested that Walker has attracted attention from multiple clubs, with Everton being a prominent name in his list of suitors.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Everton boss David Moyes has ‘approved’ Walker as an ‘ideal target’ for them with talks already ongoing over the potential transfer.

While the Toffees could be a good option for the Englishman to continue playing in the Premier League, Walker has reportedly rejected an offer from Everton in the past and the defender has revealed the reason behind that.

Why did Man City’s Kyle Walker reject Everton in the past?

Walker started his senior career with his boyhood club Sheffield United in 2008 followed by joining Tottenham Hotspur in the next year.

Prior to Walker and Kyle Naughton’s joint deal signing for Spurs, the duo also attracted attention from Everton among other clubs.

While speaking on the You’ll Never Beat Kyle Walker podcast last October, the English star mentioned (comments via Manchester Evening News) that despite the Toffees’ interest in the duo, Naughton was the only one to receive an invitation to Moyes’ house to discuss a potential transfer, and not him.

“I was close to signing for Everton before I signed for Tottenham. Just to let you know. Naughts went to his house. Naughts went to Moyes’ house and he never invited me,” said Walker.

“So, I went down to Devon (where Spurs were holding a pre-season training camp), to Tottenham and I was like okay they like me more, so I signed for Tottenham,” he added.

It remains to be seen if there has been a change of heart after 16 years and Walker would be considering a move to Goodison Park this summer.
