  • Lakers’ Luka Doncic gets big update on future in Los Angeles with ownership news

The Los Angeles Lakers made one of the most shocking trades in NBA history to acquire Luka Doncic before the 2025 trade deadline.

It was a move with one eye on the future, a future with a decade following the lead of one of the most gifted basketball players ever.

And now that future has a new organizational leader: ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that Mark Walter is buying the Lakers from the Buss family.

Walter is the Los Angeles Dodgers’ owner already, and that’s where things get extra intriguing for Luka and company.

The Dodgers are one of MLB’s biggest spenders, and it has led to tons of success.

If Walter puts his pocketbook to use the same way in the NBA, the Lakers will be an even bigger destination than they already are.

Hollywood and history draw players to the Lakers in droves. If Walter is willing to throw a chunk of extra change at prospective players, it can only help.

Of course, the base expectation will be that the Lakers pay Doncic his massive contract supermaxes for the rest of his career.

But they can then supplement him with other huge talent, too.

This seems like as good a chance of any to give Doncic his best title odds throughout his Lakers career. It could prove very fruitful.
