  • Jaguars coach reveals offense, defense plan for Colorado football legend Travis Hunter

Former Colorado football legend and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter wants to play both offense and defense in the NFL just like he did in college.

Now, Hunter has to show his new team, the Jacksonville Jaguars, that he is capable of doing it.

Jaguar head coach Liam Coen told reporters that Hunter did take part in work at both wide receiver and cornerback during a Thursday practice to conclude Jacksonville’s offseason program.

“That’s definitely what we have to build towards for training camp and then, obviously, in season,” Coen said (thanks to Pro Football Talk for the quotes). “Knowing that, during practice he’s gonna have to do both. He wants to do it. It’s not as if it’s something where he can’t handle.

“He wants to go and do that more. He wants more and that’s a good thing.”

Coen added, though, the team must “protect him from himself at times” and make sure “we get out of this phase healthy.”

With the Buffaloes, Hunter missed time due to injury. When he was on the field, he dominated, catching 96 passes for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns while recording 36 tackles and four interceptions this past year.

Hunter has played on both sides of the football all three years of college starting with Jackson State. He racked up almost 200 catches and over 2,100 yards in 30 games while picking off nine passes and making 80 combined tackles.

During the recent minicamp for the Jaguars, Hunter never played both offense and defense in the same practice.
