  • Enzo Maresca opens up on Man Utd linked Christopher Nkunku’s future

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has spoken about the future of Christopher Nkunku amid growing transfer buzz.

With Manchester United reportedly showing interest, the French forward could be heading toward another big summer decision.

Nkunku joined Chelsea in 2023 with big expectations after his impressive spell at RB Leipzig. But it’s fair to say things haven’t quite gone according to plan.

While he showed flashes of his talent, the numbers were modest — 14 goals and five assist in 44 games last season, only three of those goals were struck in the Premier League. That return didn’t exactly set Stamford Bridge on fire.

Still, his name continues to draw interest. And with United expected to refresh their front line, Nkunku’s name has been thrown into the mix.

The Red Devils are already trimming the squad, with exits likely for Jadon Sancho and Antony, while Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho are also linked with moves. The need for depth in attack is clear — but is Nkunku the right fit?

What Enzo Maresca said on Christopher Nkunku’s transfer rumors

Speaking after Chelsea’s match at the Club World Cup, Maresca didn’t shut down the rumors. “If Christo is here with us, it is because we think he can help us and he can be with us even next season,” said the Chelsea manager.

“But as you said, there are many speculations, not just about Christo, about many players. And then if something is going to happen, I don’t know because we said many times when the transfer window is open, anything can happen in terms of players that can arrive or players that can leave.”

With Matheus Cunha already signed and Bryan Mbeumo reportedly close, Manchester United’s pursuit of another attacking midfielder might raise eyebrows.

Nkunku has the skills, no doubt, but whether he fits into the Old Trafford puzzle remains to be seen.
