Netflix’s series on the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, America’s Sweethearts, was a smash hit in 2024, and now its follow-up Season 2 is here. And no one is celebrating harder than its stars.
Megan McElaney took to Instagram to jump for joy, sharing a post of herself and some of her squad- mates mid-jump, rocking the team’s iconic two-piece uniforms on the football field.
“Just one chassé away from America’s Sweethearts SEASON TWO!💙🌟,” the professional dancer and marketing director captioned her Tuesday, June 17 share on the eve of the season’s June 18 premiere.
“Can’t wait!” agreed one fan.
“SOOOO EXCITED!!” said another.
“Wohoo!! can’t wait,” commented a third.
Some of the other cheerleaders also jumped in to share their excitement.
McElaney joined the DCC in 2021 after performing with her brother on the dance team of her California high school. Although she was coming in as a fourth-year candidate, she was one of only 23 veterans auditioning. That means that the 2024-2025 class — the squad 64th year — featured on the show’s seven episodes was destined to have the largest rookie representation in five years, according to a Wednesday, June 18 article in Tudum, Netflix’s companion blog.
“Season 2 picks up ahead of the final round of auditions for the 2024–2025 squad,” according to the outlet, “then follows those who get selected through training camp, heartbreaking cuts, the official team announcement, and into the NFL season.”
Almost 500 dancers vied for a coveted spot on the team, run by coach Kelli Finglass and head choreographer Judy Trammell.
