The hottest commodity for the MLB trade deadline in 2025 might be St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado.
In the offseason following St. Louis’ dismal 2024 season, it was thought that Arenado would be on his way out of Missouri, but even after Paul Goldschmidt signed with the New York Yankees, Arenado still found himself donning the No. 28 for the Red and White.
But it seems that there could be a chance that he could be reunited with Goldy in The Bronx, along with another former teammate in Yankees second baseman DJ LeMahieu, who played alongside Arenado while the two were a part of the Colorado Rockies.
However, LeMahieu’s prime is far behind him at this point, and with current third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. likely moving over to second base soon, where the most of his defensive potential lies, the Yankees have some phone calls to make about third baseman.
And what better one to hit on than a former MVP candidate with 10 Gold Glove Awards, five Silver Sluggers, and eight All-Star appearances?
Through the 80 games he has played in 2025 for “The Lou” the future Hall of Famer has batted a .247 average with 10 home runs and 41 runs batted in. Not quite his numbers from his prime back in Denver, but still solid nonetheless, especially for a 34-year-old.
However, Arenado does have a full no-trade clause, which he made full use of this past offseason to avoid going to the Houston Astros.
Would Arenado exercise the clause again to avoid heading to the American League and the Yankees?
This is why we have the trade deadline, where we have seen, especially in recent times, that anything can happen.
