Rapper Ice Cube expressed his thoughts on who he thinks should play with Luka Doncic when LeBron James decides to retire. On top of the rapper’s list is Giannis Antetokounmpo. There have been many rumors in the past regarding Giannis potentially suiting up for the Los Angeles Lakers one day. It appears that Ice Cube does envision that future and would like to see Antetokounmpo play alongside Doncic.
LeBron is now in the twilight years of his career. While James has dodged retirement on several occasions, it’s only a matter of time until he decides to hang up the laces. Many are speculating that James is waiting for his second son, Bryce James, to make his NBA debut. Bryce will be eligible for the 2026 NBA Draft. With that in mind, there’s a possibility that LeBron could finally retire by 2027.
That being said, a big gap will be left in the Lakers’ roster. Despite Doncic already being the new face of the franchise, there’s no denying that he’ll need all the help he can get to achieve success. Many fans are pointing towards Nikola Jokic, considering how he is good friends with Luka. There’s no questioning that their chemistry would be superb, especially after witnessing glimpses of what they can do together in several All-Star games.
Ice Cube, however, sees things in a different light. While the friendship between Doncic and Jokic could do the Lakers good, the rapper believes that it could be because of that friendship that Los Angeles would ultimately fail. In his opinion, pairing Luka up with Giannis is more logical.
“I think I would take Giannis,” Ice Cube said about Luka’s next partner in Los Angeles, during his appearance on the Lakers Nation Show. “I think he would have too much fun with Jokic. They seem like they would have too much fun. So, you gotta you got to break up some of that fun because it doesn’t always spill onto the court. It spills off the court… Now, there’s nothing that is undercover. Everything is on the camera.”
Honestly speaking, the combination of Antetokounmpo and Doncic doesn’t sound like a bad idea. Luka is one of the most elite floor generals in the league today. He could easily create plays for a cutting Giannis, who’s also one of the best finishers in the NBA. If their pairing were to happen in the future, there’s a possibility that the Lakers would become consistent contenders again.
