The St. Louis Cardinals traded away three relievers at the trade deadline, but they aren’t out of the postseason hunt yet. On Monday, August 12th, the Cardinals began a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies in St. Louis,
The win had the Cardinals unknowingly extend an incredible streak. Twitter/X user @QuinnSTLCards made a post after the Cardinals’ win, saying that every time Taylor Swift announces her newest album, the team has won on that day.

While there are plenty of announcements that occurred on days St. Louis didn’t play, every time they have played on the same day of an announcement, they are undefeated.
The first instance of the Cardinals benefiting from some Swift magic came on October 24th, 2006. It wasn’t for an announcement of an album, but the release of “Taylor Swift,” her debut album. On that date, the Cardinals beat the Detroit Tigers in game three of the World Series to go up 2-1.
July 20th, 2010, Swift announced “Speak Now” and the Cardinals, for the first time, won on the same day Swift announced an album. They beat the Philadelphia Phillies 7-1, beginning an incredible streak of coincidences.
The next instance came in 2014 when Swift went on a livestream to announce “1989” and the release of “Shake It Off.” That same day, the Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds 6-5 to officially begin an incredible streak between the Cardinals and Taylor Swift.
On August 23rd, 2017, the Cardinals beat the San Diego Padres 6-2, the same day that Swift announced “Reputation.” It was the third instance of Swift’s album announcement and the Cardinals winning coincided, and it was far from the last time it would happen.

On July 23rd, 2020, Swift announced “Folklore” in the middle of the Coronavirus Pandemic. While the Cardinals didn’t play on that day, the next day was opening day for the Cardinals. They beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4. It wasn’t a direct win on an announcement day, but it’s still worth mentioning.
In 2022, on August 28th, Swift announced “Midnights” during the MTV Video Music Awards. On the same day, the Cardinals beat the Atlanta Braves 6-3.
Finally, when Swift announced “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” on August 9th, 2023, the Cardinals were going up against the Tampa Bay Rays. That matchup resulted in a 6-4 win for the Cardinals, further extending the Cardinals’ winning streak on announcement days.
Before the most recent instance, it was five straight times that the Cardinals, when playing on a date when Swift announced her next album, that St. Louis won the game.
Adding the release of her debut album, the July 23rd/24th situation, and the most recent August 11th win, the Cardinals are not just undefeated on days of significance for Swift, but are a collective 8-0.
It’s a wild coincidence that is incredibly impressive. While the Cardinals have lost on a day of importance for Swift, they have not once lost on a day when she announced her next album.
Taylor Swift, unfortunately for the Cardinals, can’t announce a new album every day. But, on the days that she does, and the Cardinals are playing, St. Louis is undefeated and has won every game they’ve played on such dates.
