  • Desmond Bane trade details: Magic send massive haul of draft picks to Grizzlies for standout shooter

With the Eastern Conference seemingly wide open next season, the Magic are making their move.

Orlando acquired guard Desmond Bane from the Grizzlies in a major trade Sunday morning, ESPN’s Shams Charania reports, with Memphis receiving a sizable haul of players and draft picks.

Bane has two seasons of at least 20 points per game since entering the league in 2020 and is a career 41 percent shooter from 3-point range. The Magic were expected to prioritize adding offense after they struggled to get much out of anyone other than Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner in the playoffs this season, and Bane gives them a legitimate scoring weapon in the backcourt — but he comes at a hefty cost.

Here are the full details of Orlando’s deal for Bane.

The Magic sent two players, four draft picks and one pick swap to the Grizzlies:

Magic receive:

Grizzlies receive

  • G Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
  • G Cole Anthony
  • Four unprotected first-round picks
  • One first-round pick swap

Bane was a major part of the Grizzlies’ offense over the last four seasons, but it’s easy to see why Memphis was enticed to move him. The Grizzlies are receiving a whopping four unprotected first-round picks from Magic, along with a first-round pick swap. That’s a sizable haul akin to what the Nets received from the Knicks for Mikal Bridges in 2024.

Caldwell-Pope struggled in his first season with Orlando, while Anthony fell into an inconsistent role behind Jalen Suggs, but the Grizzlies could try to get some value out of both if they hold onto them.

Bane is under contract for the next four seasons and comes with a cap hit of $36.7 million in 2025-26.
