The adolescents who flock onto the verdant plain at Stallings Stadium in Greenville, North Carolina do so hoping for a chance to hoist the Little League Softball World Series title.
After a week filled with home runs, strikeouts and stolen bases, two sides stand on the brink of doing so: Indiana and Pennsylvania.
Indiana has been a buzzsaw in the competition thus far, downing North Carolina to land a spot in the title game. Fueled by strong displays by Briley Mercer, the Central looks well-equipped to mount a claim for youth softball’s crown jewel.
It will face quite the challenge in Pennsylvania, though. The road to glory can be lined with potholes. But in Pennsylvania’s case, it has proved a more seamless affair, marked by standout pitching efforts and timely hitting.
The match will be nothing if not compelling. Most Little League Softball World Series finals are; we’re just one year removed from North Carolina downing Louisiana courtesy of one-run.
