Detroit Lions safety Morice Norris suffered a scary injury in the fourth quarter of the preseason Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons.
The injury occurred while Norris was attempting to make a tackle on a Falcons offensive player.
Norris’ head appeared to snap back while attempting to make the tackle and he did not get up following the play. A stretcher was brought out for Norris almost immediately and there was clearly concern on the faces of the players.

UPDATE: According to the Lions’ broadcast (h/t Richard Silva of The Detroit News), Norris was “indeed blinking his eyes” while he was loaded onto the ambulance.

It appears Lions and Falcons players have decided not to play out the rest of the game. In what is something we’ve never seen, both teams are just kneeling the football to run the clock out.
That’s certainly understandable given the situation. The officials have just announced that the game has been suspended.

Not only was Norris loaded onto a stretcher, an ambulance has now been brought on the field for the defensive back.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell called players in for a team meeting on the field as Norris was taken off the field. The broadcast’s sideline reporter noted that players were clearly emotional and concerned about Norris’ well-being.
