Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa praised rookie Quinn Ewers after the team’s seventh training camp practice on Wednesday.
“I think Quinn’s been balling,” Tagovailoa said, according to The Palm Beach Post’s Joe Schad. “I think he’s been buying into what he’s been told in the quarterback room.”
Tagovailoa’s praise for Ewers comes as no surprise, given the rookie’s strong performances throughout training camp. On Monday, the Miami Herald reported that during the final 11-on-11 red zone period, Ewers completed three consecutive touchdown passes in his three reps. He drew commendation from Tagovailoa and the offense after each score.
Ewers is steadily grasping the offense and sharpening his timing under head coach Mike McDaniel’s guidance.
Every college player finds it hard when moving to the big league. Having played under Steve Sarkisian at Texas, Ewers understands that the magnitude of the professional game presents a level of difficulty most have not encountered before.
“I would just say the details and just the magnitude of the plays and how much every small detail matters,” Ewers said. … “In the NFL I feel like it’s just another level and just the multitude of different variations of plays that they have that match other plays. And it’s, but at the end of the day, I love a challenge.”
Ewers is expected to serve as the Dolphins’ third-string quarterback behind Tua Tagovailoa and Zach Wilson for the 2025 season.
Tagovailoa is the team’s proven leader when healthy, but his history of multiple concussions and other injuries has created concerns about his long-term availability.
Wilson provides experienced depth but has yet to firmly establish himself as the unquestioned backup or future starter.
This represents an opportunity for Quinn Ewers to make his mark. Early impressions from training camp indicate he is on a path to becoming Miami’s quarterback of the future.
