The Seattle Seahawks’ quarterbacks room looks a whole lot different heading into the 2025 NFL season.
After trading Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders for a third-round pick, the team signed free agent Sam Darnold to a three-year, $100.5 million contract to be their starting quarterback.
In the 2025 NFL draft, using the pick they received from the Raiders in the Geno Smith trade, the Seahawks selected Jalen Milroe out of Alabama.
Coming out of college, everyone knew that Milroe was exceptional as a rusher. Over the course of his career at Alabama, he ran for over 1,500 yards and 33 touchdowns.
The questions in his game centered around his ability as a passer.
According to Brian Nemhauser of Hawk Blogger, Milroe has been impressing so far at training camp and has shown major improvement.
“He’s throwing such a pretty ball right now. I do not have the words to articulate how much of a different player he looks like now than what he looked like in Mobile, Alabama during those practices where he did not look like someone capable of throwing a football in college, let alone in the NFL,” Nemhauser said. “I even saw some quick outs which is good to see him process and make a quick throw, on time, accurately and take away the pass rush’s ability to get to him. All that he did without using his legs.”
Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune reported on Saturday that Milroe, who is working with the third-team offense as expected, “continues to throw more accurately seemingly with each practice.”
Heading into the draft, it was well known that Milroe would be a project and would need development before becoming a starting quarterback.
Milroe showing major progress this early is extremely impressive and is a great sign for his future in the NFL.
With continued growth as a passer, Milroe has a legitimate chance to become the Seahawks’ long-term answer at quarterback.
