The Denver Broncos have had a tremendous offseason and are starting to get national recognition as a team to watch in 2025.

That hasn’t been more evident this offseason than when ESPN put out rankings of all 32 teams based on their full starting lineup, and the Broncos checked in at No. 6. Broncos Country will quickly remember seeing their team toward the bottom of these kinds of lists not too long ago, and to see them at No. 6 has to be exciting.

It’s way too high, according to Nick Wright. On his show, First Things First on FS1, Wright explained that the Broncos were too high on the list and shouldn’t be ranked ahead of several teams behind them.

“The Broncos at six is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever seen”, stated Wright.

He went on to state his reasons why the Broncos are too high, all related to last season and the caliber of quarterbacks the team faced. His co-hosts seemed to mostly agree, but also acknowledged that there is good reason for the team to be hyped.

“I’m not saying they can’t be good, I don’t think they will be, but I’m not saying they can’t be”, said Wright. “Oh, you don’t think they’re gonna be good?” asked Chris Broussard and Wright retorted with a simple “No”.

Broussard goes on to agree that the No. 6 spot is a bit too high for the Broncos, pointing to the lack of offensive playmakers and suggesting that Bo Nix may be getting a little too much credit.

“People are treating Bo Nix, who did have a very good rookie year, they’re treating him like he’s about to bust into the top five or six quarterbacks in the league, that’s really how people are talking”, said Broussard.

That’s when Wright makes one of the more ridiculous statements you’ll hear this year. “He’s clearly the worst quarterback in the division”.

What? How can one make that claim? Nix, who has been in the NFL for just one season in which he was incredible and pushed for the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award, is the worst quarterback in the AFC West? Sure, he doesn’t have the accolades that Patrick Mahomes does (neither does anyone else currently playing) and he doesn’t get the annual hype that Justin Herbert gets, but Nix as the worst quarterback in the division is truly laughable.

Geno Smith deserves credit for turning his career around and having the ability to be an above-average starter. But how many general managers would take him over Nix right now? None who wanted to keep their jobs.

As for Herbert, the talent is there, but it’s true that he hasn’t done much with it. He’s 0-2 in the playoffs and there’s nothing about him that suggests he can lead a team to the Super Bowl and win it. Could he? Sure, but it hasn’t been put on display to this point. You could make a very good argument that Nix is better for most teams than Herbert.

The 2025 season has been shaping up all along as a year where Nix is going to have to silence some critics.
