Manchester United are going through wholesale changes under Ruben Amorim, who is keen to improve the performances of the Red Devils heading into the new season.
They have signed two Premier League proven forwards in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo, whilst also securing the services of young fullback Diego Leon.
United are now pushing for a new midfielder, and they have been linked with several players, including Valencia’s Javi Guerra.
Many fans also believe that the Red Devils will be in the market to sign a prolific striker this summer following Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee’s poor performances last season.
There were some reports that United may look to offload some players before entering the market for an elite striker.
Recently, when Amorim was asked about signing a new striker, he said, “They [Mbeumo/Cunha] can play as a striker. We have Josh [Zirkzee] and Rasmus [Hojlund], the focus is to improve the connection between them. I don’t know if the position is there for them. They have to work. They have other players fighting for that position.

“I’m really pleased. They are really humble, that is important, and they chose to be here. They had other options, Champions League options, they read everything people say about our club, but they chose to be here. That is a key point for me.”
What did Amorim say about the United roster heading into the 2025/26 campaign?
Amorim feels that United must be extremely careful in signing players given the club’s transfer record in the last few seasons.

When asked if he is happy with the current roster ahead of the Premier League 2025/26 opener against Arsenal, he replied, “At the moment, we need to be really careful when we sign a player. If we have to start the season with this squad, then I’m happy because all the players want to be here. That is the most important thing.
“With Bryan and Matheus, we are clearly a better team.”
As per reports on ESPN, Hojlund and Zirkzee may get another opportunity to prove their worth under the tutelage of Amorim.
On the other hand, Mbeumo is also seen as a striker option for the Portuguese coach, as he has featured as a centre forward or second striker 65 times in his career.
If United decide not to sign a new striker this summer, it will be interesting to see how Amorim brings out the best among his remaining options at the club.
