The fifth and final day of the Iowa high school state baseball tournament featured the crowning of four champions in four classifications.
Over in Sioux City, Pella won its first-ever baseball title in Class 3A with a 3-1 victory over Dubuque Wahlert while Iowa City High also claimed its first baseball crown, besting Bettendorf, 4-1.
The 1A championship went to Saint Ansgar thanks to a 4-1 win over Martensdale-St. Marys, as Pleasantville claimed 2A gold vs. Unity Christian, 9-1.
Here are some of the top performances from the four Iowa high school state baseball championship games:
Class 4A
- Jaxton Schroeder, Iowa City High: Schroeder struck out eight, allowing just four hits on the hill.
- Drew Nye, Iowa City High: Nye drove in two runs with a hit.
- Talon Young, Iowa City High: Young had two hits, driving in a run for the Little Hawks.
- Wrigley Matthys, Bettendorf: Matthys had two of the four hits allowed by Schroeder.
Class 3A
- Will Pierro, Dubuque Wahlert: Pierro went the distance, striking out six with just one hit allowed on the day.
- Teagan Hoekstra, Pella: The starter allowed just four hits, striking out seven with one walk and no earned runs allowed.
- Landyn Bethards, Pella: The shortstop collected two RBI with a double.
Class 2A
- Caylor Jones, Pleasantville: Jones struck out five over six innings, allowing just one hit.
- JJ Phillips, Pleasantville: Phillips hit a home run and a double, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.
- Noah Rist, Pleasantville: Rist drove in two runs with a double.
- Adler Van Essen, Unity Christian: Van Essen had seven strikeouts in relief, allowing just three hits.
Class 1A
- Jayce Schwiesow, Saint Ansgar: Schwiesow earned the win, going the distance while striking out four and allowing just two hits.
- Gus Walk, Saint Ansgar: Walk drew two walks, scored a run and drove in another run.
- Travis White, Martensdale-St. Marys: White struck out six on the mound.
