The Ole Miss football team was hit with tragic news Sunday when it was announced that 18-year-old Rebels freshman Corey Adams was killed in a shooting Saturday in Cordova, Tennessee, which is a suburb of Memphis.

According to the Vicksburg Post, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said 18-year-old Adams was killed, and four others were injured, in a shooting in Cordova, Tennessee, which is an eastern suburb of Memphis.  Adams had signed to play football at Ole Miss back in December of 2024 and had already enrolled in school for the spring semester.

The school released a statement on Adams’ passing.

“We are devastated to learn that Corey Adams, a freshman on the team, passed away last night in Cordova, Tennessee. While our program is trying to cope with this tragic loss, our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement said. “Out of respect for his family, we will not be commenting further at this time. We ask the Ole Miss community to keep Corey in their thoughts and respect the privacy of everyone involved.”

Adams high school has also released a statement via Facebook on his tragic loss.

“Corey Adams was more than a football player! He was a friend, brother, son, student, and all-around great young man. We never question God but this is one we just don’t understand. This wasn’t supposed to be the end of his story but we will #DoIt4Co,” Edna Karr High School said in their Facebook post.

More details about what happened at the scene of the crime have yet to be released, and so far, the sheriff’s department has not said if a suspect has been arrested yet. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin has yet to release his own statement about Adams but he may do so in the coming days.
