Ruben Amorim is keen to rebuild Manchester United in this summer transfer window after they finished 15th in the 2024/25 Premier League points table.
The Portuguese manager’s first move in the summer transfer window was signing Mathues Cunha from Wolves for £62.5m (approx $84m).
The Brazilian made his debut for United against Leeds United in a preseason and though he didn’t score or provide an assist, Cunha had an impact on the game.
The match ended 0-0, but Amorim was happy with what he saw, especially from the former Wolves star, who threatened Leeds’ backline in his 45-minute stint in Stockholm.
Cunha is expected to play on the left side of the attack in Amorim’s traditional 3-4-2-1 system. The Brazilian is expected to partner Bryan Mbeumo, who is reportedly close to making the United switch.
The 26-year-old is coming off a sensational season for Wolves, where he netted 15 goals and provided six assists in 33 Premier League fixtures.

His playing style fits really well with the style and philosophy that Amorim wants to play in the upcoming season.
Fans were also impressed with the Brazilian’s show in the preseason clash, and with more fans, Cunha will settle into the new system and could start having more impact.
What did Amorim say about Cunha’s debut for Manchester United?
The Portuguese tactician acknowledged that the Red Devils have a lot to do following the stalemate. He focused on improving their quality in the final third.

Amorim is hopeful that Cunha will form good partnerships with Bruno Fernandes and Mbuemo, who will eventually join the club.
“We watched [Cunha] during last season in a different team, so we expect the same thing,” the United boss said at the post-match press conference.
“You can see the connection between him and Bruno [Fernandes] is still not there, but it’s going to be a good connection because you can put a player like Kobbie Mainoo there, Mason Mount there.
“We need to build that bond between everybody. There’s a lot to improve. The speed of our game, all the details. But we’ll get there.”
Cunha could be a gamechanger for United as he brings Premier League experience, quality in the final third and also has a proven goalscoring record in the English top flight.
