We’re now deep into July, which means we’re getting close to training camp starting up and are less than two months away from real football being played.
Ahead of the 2025 season, the Seattle Seahawks are an interesting team to watch. The Seahawks overachieved in some ways last season, as they ended with a 10-7 record in head coach Mike Macdonald’s first season at the helm.
However, the team revamped the offense anyway this offseason, swapping out Tyler Lockett, D.K. Metcalf, and Geno Smith for Cooper Kupp, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Sam Darnold.
It was a bold decision to rework a unit that was good enough to win 10 games last year, but it’s clear the Seahawks want to get younger. It will be interesting to see if Darnold can repeat his career-best performance from last season.
Now, let’s see where the Seahawks are currently standing in some power rankings.
Brent Sobleski, Bleacher Report: 21st
Sobleski has the Seahawks near the bottom after their big offseason moves. Notably, Sobleski has the Seahawks as the lowest-rated NFC West team.
Regarding this ranking, Sobleski offered the following analysis:
Did the Seahawks actually get better this offseason? Sam Darnold replaces Geno Smith at quarterback. Seattle’s braintrust is hoping it gets the version of Darnold that showed up last year with the Minnesota Vikings. DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett are gone as well. Jaxon Smith-Njigba will now be in the spotlight, while complemented by the newly signed Cooper Kupp and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
As long as the offensive line stays healthy and holds up after the addition of first-rounder Grey Zabel, maybe the team can push past mediocrity. There is plenty of unknown with this group, though.
Mike Florio, Pro Football Talk: 18th
Next, we have Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk. Florio is higher on the Seahawks than Sobleski is, slotting the team in at the 18th spot.
Regarding that placement, Florio simply said “The Geno-for-Darnold swap was a bold one.”
ESPN’s Football Power Index: 21st
ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) isn’t a traditional power ranking. Instead, FPI is a predictive model that estimates a team’s strength and future performance based on various factors such as strength of schedule and previous performance.
This formula, like Sobleski at Bleacher Report, has the Seahawks at 21st. Again, the Seahawks have the lowest ranking among NFC West teams.
FPI projects the Seahawks to end with an 8-9 record and gives the team a 32.6% chance to make the playoffs and a 14.0% chance to win the NFC West.
