Taylor Fritz will need to beat two-time defending Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz in today’s semifinal if he is to keep his quest alive to become the first American man to win tennis’ oldest major tournament in 25 years — Pete Sampras last lifting the SW19 trophy.

The 27-year-old beat world No.20 Karen Khachanov to set up a meeting with Alcaraz, while the Spaniard defeated Cameron Norrie comfortably in straight sets.

Fritz is playing in his first semifinal at SW19 but came into the tournament in brilliant grass court form having won two titles. He’s now up against an opponent who is on the best win streak of his career — 23 consecutive victories and 19th consecutive at Wimbledon.

The pair have met on two previous occasions with Alcaraz winning both of those hard court matches in straight sets.
