Once in firm control of the La Liga table, Barcelona are once again scraping to hang onto their lead at the top of the standings as they travel to meet second-place Atletico Madrid on Sunday.
The season started spectacularly for the Blaugrana, winning their first 11 matches of the season across all competitions, but a brief two-game losing streak — one in the Champions League to European champions PSG and one to El Clasico rivals Real Madrid — have reeled in expectations and returned them to Earth.
They have rediscovered their form over their last two games, trouncing Alaves 6-0 on the weekend and beating Aston Villa 3-0 in European play midweek, as Hansi Flick’s side enters with a slim two-point lead at the top of the La Liga table. They will be without Rodri in this match, who has picked up a hamstring injury and could miss around three weeks of time.
