British rivals Joshua Buatsi and Willy Hutchinson will settle their score with the WBC light-heavyweight title on the line on Saturday night
Buatsi (20-1, 13 KOs), an Olympic bronze medalist a decade ago in Rio, won a split decision in a cagey affair on the Daniel Dubois vs. Anthony Joshua undercard at Wembley in September 2024.
The 33-year-old Londoner then suffered a first career defeat in a fight of the year contender against Callum Smith in early 2025, and has not boxed in the 12 months since his disputed decision win over Zack Parker last November.
Hutchinson (20-2, 14 KOs) has claimed solid wins over domestic rivals Mark Jeffers and Ezra Taylor since the initial Buatsi encounter to continue a career-best run of form. The 28-year-old will feel this shot is arriving at the perfect time against a gifted foe whose decade in the professional ranks has never truly ignited.
The WBC title, which was vacated by Dmitry Bivol following his rematch win over Artur Beterbiev last year, is up for grabs after previous champion David Benavidez stepped up to cruiserweight to dethrone Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez in May.
Bivol will defend his WBA, WBO and IBF belts against Buatsi’s sole professional conqueror Smith in Russia next month.
