No. 2 Georgia heads to Oxford on Saturday night for a rematch nobody in Athens has forgotten.

The Bulldogs (7-1) visit No. 10 Ole Miss (6-2) at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, and there’s a lot riding on it. The Rebels ended Georgia’s season in last year’s Sugar Bowl with a 39-34 win in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals. With two losses already, they probably need to win out to get back into the playoff.

Georgia has a little more breathing room after the stunning loss to Auburn last month. Still, Kirby Smart is 0-2 in Oxford, and Ole Miss has won 16 straight at home. That’s part of why the Bulldogs are only about a field-goal favorite on the road.

Trinidad Chambliss is rolling after he threw for 263 yards and ran for 65 more in the 45-15 win over Auburn. On the other side, Georgia’s defense forced four turnovers in last week’s 27-8 win over Florida.

ProphetX Ole Miss vs. Georgia value picks

The Bulldogs should be able to win this game on the ground. Georgia averages 200.1 rushing yards per game, while Ole Miss has given up nearly 149 a game on the ground this season. That’s the weak spot on a defense that ranks near the bottom of the SEC in total yards allowed.

Mike Bobo also hinted that Gunner Stockton could run more in a big spot like this one. That gives Ole Miss another problem to deal with on top of a deep backfield that just ran all over Florida.

On the other side, Kewan Lacy is still out with a shoulder injury, so the Rebels lean even harder on their passing game. Georgia leads the SEC by allowing just 14.9 points per game, and holding Ole Miss to that number in Oxford is a tall order. Even so, I think the Bulldogs can control the clock and keep Chambliss on the sideline for long stretches.

Ole Miss has been great at home, and this won’t be easy. That said, Georgia is the more complete team, and I trust them to win by more than a field goal.

Chambliss hasn’t run nearly as much this season as he did last year, but last Saturday looked like a turning point. He ran for 65 yards against Auburn, his best rushing game of the season, with Lacy sidelined.

Without Lacy again, Ole Miss needs another source of rushing production, and the quarterback is the most obvious answer. Pete Golding has already talked about getting back to more of Chambliss’ old style, which made him so dangerous a year ago.

He’s also had some success with his legs against this defense, running for 42 yards and two touchdowns at Sanford Stadium last October. Georgia stops the run as well as anyone, allowing just 2.7 yards per carry, but quarterback scrambles are tougher to plan for than designed runs. If the Bulldogs take away the deep shots, Chambliss should find room to escape the pocket.

Kalshi Ole Miss vs. Georgia value pick

Georgia has been fast out of the gate this season. The Bulldogs raced out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter against Auburn, and they took a 24-0 lead into halftime against Florida last weekend, with Nate Frazier and Bo Walker each punching in short touchdown runs.

This offense leads the SEC at 41 points per game, and it’s second in the league in third-down conversion rate. That kind of efficiency tends to show up on opening drives, when Mike Bobo has his scripted plays ready to go.

Ole Miss doesn’t always start this well. The Rebels dug a 21-point halftime hole at Texas and needed a second-half rally just to make that game close. Without Kewan Lacy, they could also have trouble finishing drives early before the offense finds its rhythm.

Ole Miss did jump out on LSU earlier this year, so a quick start from the Rebels is possible, especially with the home crowd behind them at night. Still, I like Georgia’s chances to get into the end zone first, and this price doesn’t fully reflect how well they’ve started games lately.

These two teams have put on a show every time they’ve met lately. Their regular-season matchup in Athens last October ended 43-35, and the Sugar Bowl finished 39-34. Both of those games blew past this total, and both offenses still have their quarterbacks from those matchups.

Georgia’s offense is better this year, too. The Bulldogs lead the SEC in passing efficiency, so they can hurt Ole Miss through the air if the Rebels load the box to slow down the run game. Ole Miss has allowed 24 points per game, and a Georgia team with this much balance should top that on Saturday.

The question is whether Ole Miss can hold up its end. Georgia’s defense gives up just 4.29 yards per play, and the Bulldogs won’t make life easy for Chambliss. That said, he’s thrown 16 touchdown passes this season and can still find big plays against this secondary, which was the weak spot of last year’s defense too.

A night game in Oxford with a playoff spot on the line feels like it could turn into a shootout. Short fields off turnovers or a couple of explosive plays would get this over the number quickly, and I expect both offenses to have their moments.
