Neither Michigan nor Michigan State is having the season they envisioned, but intensity is always high when they clash with the Paul Bunyan Trophy on the line.

The Wolverines (5-3, 2-3 Big Ten) and Spartans (2-6, 0-5) face off in Ann Arbor on Saturday with their fortunes seeming headed in opposite directions.

Though Michigan fans have hardly been satisfied with what they’ve seen this season, the Wolverines have won two of three with an overtime loss to No. 6 Indiana in between. With Tommy Carr seemingly entrenched as the starting QB and set to make his third consecutive start, the Wolverines feel like they have some much-needed positive momentum.

The Spartans’ recent QB juggling has been involuntary. Starter Alessio Milivojevic missed the last game at UCLA due to injury, and with backup Cam Fancher also sidelined MSU started true freshman Kayd Coffman against the Bruins. Redshirt freshman Leo Hannan also played in that 28-10 loss, so everything is in flux for Pat Fitzgerald at the moment after six consecutive losses.

Can Sparty pull the upset Saturday or will the Wolverines win their fifth in a row in the series and keep their in-state rivals winless in conference play? Here’s all you need to know to tune in.
