The Cleveland Browns lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 8, and during the game, Jared Verse of the Browns and Mason McCormick of the Steelers had a moment go viral.
During a kick from Chris Boswell, Verse was thrown to the ground by McCormick, nearly landing on his head/neck. McCormick essentially body-slammed Verse, and Verse called out McCormick, saying he “can’t have respect” for such a play.
But now, a few days later, Daryl Ruiter of 923 The Fan shared that Verse wasn’t only frustrated with McCormick, but with how his Browns teammates reacted to him getting slammed. He called out his teammates publicly for their reaction,

“The lack of reaction by those around me upset me a lot,” Verse said while further talking about the McCormick play and how it angered him.

This is a very strong statement from Verse, as he’s publicly expressing his frustration with his own teammates over their lack of reaction to his big hit.
Verse was hoping his teammates would’ve come more to his defense and backed him up on the field by going after McCormick in some way.
It happens all of the time in the NFL, where one player is hit hard, and his teammates come to his defense by getting in the opposing players’ face.
That didn’t happen after Verse’s big hit, and he took offense to it. He did admit to addressing the team about it, but his now public call-out of the Browns players is not a good look for the Browns.

Verse also expressed frustration about how the play from McCormick could’ve impacted his future, not just in the NFL, but in life. He has no respect for that kind of play, and has made that well known after the game.
But, it’s not just his frustrations with McCormick to come from this big hit, he’s now also called out his Browns teammates for not coming to his defense like he would if one of his teammates were hit big like he was.
A player calling out his own teammates like this is not a good thing, especially considering Verse is meant to be a key player for the Browns’ future after coming over in the Myles Garrett trade.
His very public call-out of his Browns teammates will likely be addressed internally and is something that will likely linger over this team if it’s not resolved soon.
