Out with the old, in with the new. Ja Morant is serving up a new look amid his injury recovery, where he is ditching his signature locs.
In a video shared on Nov. 4, the Portland Trail Blazers star shocked the internet when he revealed that he will now be rocking a low cut instead of the locs fans have associated with his look.

Morant also shared a sequence of photos on his Instagram Wednesday that showed the hair stylist cutting off the locs. After a couple of slides showed his hair on the floor as he sat in the chair, a photo revealed Morant’s reaction: a big smile as he gazed at half of his hair waiting to be cut, and then the other side showing his newly cut hair.
Towards the end of the post, the last three photos showed Morant rocking the new cut underneath a green hat as he made his way onto a private plane. He most likely was boarding the plane to go to Arizona, where they faced the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday.
Fans responded to the new cut in the comments, with one fan asking, “Freshman year cut ain’t it?”
“he’s backkkkkkkkk,” another fan wrote, adding the celebration emoji.
The Trail Blazers defeated the Suns 132-119. While the Trail Blazers were able to pull off the win, Morant was sidelined due to a Grade 2 left hamstring strain he suffered last month. On Oct. 30, it was announced that he would miss at least four weeks. So far this season, he’s averaging 15.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists across the four games he has played. Morant reacted to how the injury and the mental toll it put on him.
“You want to be out there knowing you can’t. That’s, I feel like, the even tougher part,” Morant stated. “I feel like nobody in this league would get injured and, you know, be able to play and not play, pretty much, unless it’s like something where we like, ‘All right, if I go play, I maybe can hurt it worse or anything.'”
“So mentally, it can have you down on yourself. Actually, it can make you, you know, question everything, like, ‘Why it had to be me? Why at this time?'”
While Morant is not on the court for now, the Trail Blazers will be back on the road again to face the Los Angeles Lakers on Nov. 6 at 10 p.m. ET.
