The Seattle Seahawks are heading into their Week 9 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, coming off a tough loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football.

While they were able to get both Jadarian Price and Zach Charbonnet back from injury in Week 8, the Seahawks got some bad news following the game about their quarterback, Sam Darnold.

The Ringer’s Tom Pelissero reports that Mike Macdonald announced Wednesday to reporters that Darnold will miss Week 9 as he deals with a quad injury. Once again, the Seahawks will be turning to Drew Lock at QB.

Seahawks rule out Sam Darnold with quad injury, turn to Drew Lock once again

“Seahawks QB Sam Darnold is out this week with a quad injury, per Mike Macdonald,” Pelissero. “Drew Lock starts against the Cardinals.”

This is some major news for the Seahawks, as they’ve once again lost their starting quarterback this season. Darnold missed time earlier this season following an early injury during the season opener, and now is going to miss another game.

Darnold has 1,478 passing yards and 10 touchdowns this season, with nine interceptions in his seven games played. He’s not been great, but he’s been good enough to get the ball to Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

But now, with Darnold set to miss Week 9, and potentially even Week 10 considering their Week 11 bye is right around the corner, Lock could be in line to make two more starts this season.

He, at the very least, will get another chance in Week 9 when the Seahawks play the Arizona Cardinals. Fittingly, his last start for the Seahawks this season also came against the Cardinals.

He went 19 of 26 for 235 yards and three touchdowns in that blowout win, coming off a solid relief appearance against the New England Patriots, where he went 16 of 22 for 187 yards and a TD.

The 4-4 Seahawks could really use a win after losing three of their last four games. Lock will be the one to lead this team against the Cardinals, a team coming off a big win over the Dallas Cowboys, with their own QB change to Gardner Minshew going well.

Lock gets the keys to the offense in Seattle for Week 9, as Darnold is going to miss a game, if not more, with a quad injury he suffered late in the game against the Bears on Monday Night Football in Week 8.
