The New York Jets, coming off a tough loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, are gearing up to face the Kansas City Chiefs, who are coming off back-to-back losses.

The 2-6 Jets are on a three-game losing streak, and it’s looking likely that it will extend to four games facing this tough Chiefs team. Things got even worse during the practice week for the Jets as well, with some unfortunate news on Garrett Wilson.

During Aaron Glenn’s Wednesday press conference, he told reporters that Wilson has been placed in the concussion protocol, putting his status for Week 9 in doubt.

Jets’ Garrett Wilson in doubt for Week 9 after concussion news

“WR Garrett Wilson is in the concussion protocol,” the Jets announced during Aaron Glenn’s press conference Wednesday morning.

This is some brutal news for the Jets, as the offense has been clicking recently, putting up 25 points in Week 7 and 33 points in Week 8. But now, their No. 1 WR might miss a week, and maybe more, with a concussion.

Wilson is coming off a solid game for the Jets, catching six of 12 targets for 83 yards, one week after just two catches for 26 yards on three targets, which led some to question the Jets’ offense for how they involve Wilson.

On the year so far, Wilson has 43 receptions for 527 yards and three touchdowns. His season might go on hold for a week or so, as this concussion issue could keep him out of their Week 9 matchup against the Chiefs, and maybe longer as well.

Omar Cooper Jr. and Adonai Mitchell will become the top options for Geno Smith in this passing offense. It’s a strong duo even without Wilson, but having all three would be huge for the Jets offense.

Unfortunately, with this concussion news, it’s looking likely that the Jets will have to go a week without Wilson involved in the offense. There’s a chance he plays, but a late add to the concussion protocol list like this isn’t a good omen for his Week 9 status.
