The Toronto Raptors have let the entire NBA know that they intend to compete for championships. The team has endured several consecutive seasons in which it hasn’t necessarily been among the most competitive in the league.

This summer, they made it a priority to make a move that would help them become competitive again. That move was trading for Kawhi Leonard.

“The trade sending Kawhi Leonard from the LA Clippers to Toronto has been made official after a monthslong delay due to the NBA’s investigation into the Clippers for salary cap circumvention. The teams initially agreed to the deal on June 30, but it was paused while the league investigated allegations the Clippers violated salary cap rules in signing Leonard as a free agent,” ESPN’s Shams Charania wrote.

Of course, that doesn’t mean they have all the pieces in place just yet. Toronto is going to need another shooter if it wants to become a legitimate contender.

“This year’s Raptors team will still be plenty dangerous and they’ll be an absolutely miserable team to have to play against, whether in the regular season or the playoffs, but it may take another roster move, or a breakout shooting performance,” Raptors HQ’s Chris Harrison wrote.

With that in mind, CBS Sports’ Sam Quinn believes the Raptors should trade for 13-year veteran CJ McCollum.

“All of the offense-needy contenders would love him off of a buyout, so Detroit, Miami, Toronto, Orlando and Houston are all options. Toronto is probably the best equipped of those teams to actually trade for him, though, if it determines that it would rather have his shooting than Barrett’s size,” Quinn wrote.

Toronto is a scary team, there is no doubt about that, but it still needs more pieces, and it needs them quickly. McCollum is one of the best shooters in the game, making him an ideal fit for what the Raptors need.

McCollum is currently on a $21 million deal with the Atlanta Hawks. The veteran guard could be another piece of the puzzle that makes Toronto better and turns it into an even bigger offensive threat.
